The Department of Foreign Languages (DFL) comprises the Basic English Unit (BEU), Modern Languages Unit (MLU), and English for Academic Purposes Unit (EAPU). In the BEU, the English Language Preparatory Program (ELPP) aims to produce students with the English-language skills required at a research university. ELPP prioritizes the speaking and writing skills, required to complete an undergraduate degree program. Students of the ELPP acquire the necessary language skills via tutorials and SAC. BEU offers students extracurricular private and group classes based on their individual needs, with the support of the SAC.

MLU offers second foreign language courses of up to six semesters to students in the preparatory school and students of BA programs, in accordance with Bologna criteria. EAPU prepares students that have completed the preparatory school's English program to meet the academic requirements of their departments by offering such English-language courses as Academic Readings in Social Sciences (ENG 111) and Academic Writing in Social Sciences (ENG 112).
