Professor Dr. Havva Kök Arslan:
Head of the Department of the International Relations, Director of the MA in Peace and Conflict Studies. E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org In 2012 Dr. Havva Kök Arslan created the first MA in Peace and Conflict Studies in Turkey which aims to bridge the divide between theory and practice drawing from the latest expertise in the field. Her dream is to create a Global Peace Institute at SSUA (Social Sciences University of Ankara) which will provide MA and Doctoral programmes for the needs of government leadership, civil society, and local, national and international organizations working in the field of peace studies to transform how the world deals with the conflict.
Dr. Kök Arslan received her PhD and MA from the Department of Politics at Leeds University, UK; another MA from Institut Européen des Hautes Etudes Internationales, Centre International de la Formation Européenne, Nice, France. She studied peace and conflict studies at European Peace University, Stadshclaining, Austria. She joined Social Sciences University of Ankara (SSUA) in March 2017 and became a professor at the Department of International Relations. Previously she worked at Hacettepe University in Ankara (2004-2017). She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on international relations theory, Turkish foreign policy, foreign policy analysis, Russia, Central Asia, Transcaucasus, peace and conflict studies, peacebuilding, nonviolent communication. From 2000 to 2003 she served as an advisor to the State Minister of Turkey responsible for Eurasian affairs at the Prime Ministry in Ankara. She is the author of several publications touching on Eurasian politics, Turkish foreign policy and nonviolent communication. As for the projects, she has directed several of them on conflict transformation such as “peaceful solutions to regional conflicts” at Hacettepe University (2013-2014), “peace studies workshops (2012-2013). Since February 2017, she has been directing the first launched Executive Training Certification Program on “Psychosocial Support and Conflict Transformation” in Turkey, by ASBÜ, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration.
Assistant Professor Vanessa Tinker:

Since 2016 Dr. Vanessa Tinker became an Assistant Professor for the Department of International Relations and for the MA Program in Peace and Conflict Studies at ASBU in Ankara, Turkey. Previously she taught at Hacettepe University in Ankara (2015-2016), Selcuk University in Konya (2014-2015), and Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California (2014). She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on topics relating to peace and conflict studies including peace education, and women and peacebuilding. She has also taught complimentary undergraduate courses in International Relations in Turkey, the USA and UK including: Introduction to Strategic Studies, Political Science, Political Thought, International Relations and American Government. Dr. Vanessa Tinker received her PhD in International Conflict Analysis at the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK. Her PhD research focused on peace education programs in post-conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she conducted field work. In addition to teaching, she has been managing the first launched Executive Training Certification Program on “Psychosocial Support and Conflict Transformation” in Turkey, by ASBÜ, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration. She also previously worked on a project funded by the British Academy that analyzed two Turkish NGOs – SEMA and SEDEF, and their role in human rights, peace/state-building and their influence on the reconstruction of Bosniak Islamic identity through their formal private educational establishments. Her present research interest and area of expertise include: education-related programmes by international actors as a tool of peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction in ethno/religiously-linked post-conflict environments, the role of women in peace processes, and currently the education, integration and social cohesion of Syrian children refugees in Turkey.
Research Assistant Muhammed Yasir Okumuş:

Graduated from Koç University with a double major BA in International Relations and History in 2013. In February 2016 Muhammed Yasir Okumuş become a research assistant at Social Sciences University of Ankara Department of Internatioal Relations. Currently he is a MA student at Istanbul Şehir University in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. His thesis research focuses on the role of Islamic actors in peacebuilding process in Mindanao, Philippines. Peace and conflict studies, religion-violence-conflict-peace relations, Philippines politics, Islamist thought, Turkish foreign policy, and legitimacy are among Okumuş’s research interests. He has taught two couses named Understanding Politics and Economy and Understanding Society and Culture at İstanbul Şehir University as an assistant of Core Curriculum Office. His op-eds are published in Turkish newspapers such as Yeni Şafak.

Graduated from Bogazici University with a BA in Political Science and International Relations in 2010. During his undergraduate studies, he trained in various research fields and participated in a number of EU projects. He also studied abroad with the Erasmus. After working in the private sector for a while, he started his graduate studies in Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University. He is currently continuing his graduate studies and works as a research assistant in the International Relations Department of Social Sciences University of Ankara.

Graduated from Bilkent University with a BA in International Relations in 2014. She became a research assistant at Social Sciences Universtiy of Ankara Department of International Relations in November 2016. She is currently a graduate student pursing her MA at Boğaziçi University for the Political Science and International Relations Department. Her research interests include the civil society-state relations, political economy and gender studies.
